A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
There are big questions that haunt all of us. What happens when I die? Where will I spend eternity? The single most important question that you will ever answer is this: “If I were to die today, would I spend eternity in Heaven with God?” Your relationship to Jesus Christ is central to the answer to that question.
First, Acknowledge Your Condition
We have to acknowledge that we are lost in sin. Romans 5:12 tells us that ever since Adam and Eve—the first humans—sin has been part of human nature. Romans 3:23 states, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Sin is any action that goes against God’s laws and commandments, and the sins I’ve committed have created a separation between me and God. Anytime I’ve been lost, there’s been some kind of consequence. I’ve been late to important events, and even gotten a speeding ticket. In the same way, sin carries a consequence. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” The “wage,” or consequence, of sin is spiritual death—eternal separation from God.
Religion and Good Deeds Can’t Save Us
Many religions attempt to create their own paths to reach God. These approaches might seem reasonable, but they can’t fix the separation caused by our sin. Proverbs 14:12 warns, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” In other words, it’s not about what we think is right—what truly matters is what God says. The Bible, God’s Word, gives us the real answers through His grace and forgiveness. Ephesians 2:8–9 explains it clearly: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Salvation isn’t something we can earn through good works—it’s a gift from God that comes through faith.
The Good News: Jesus Christ Is the Way!
Even though we were lost and separated from God, He still loved us deeply. Because God is love, He sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the Cross—and three days later, He rose from the dead. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Jesus’ death and resurrection paid the price for our sins, so we don’t have to bear that penalty ourselves. God offers us salvation as a gift of His grace. Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God commendeth [demonstrated] his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Jesus willingly took our place to show just how much God loves us.
Believe in Jesus and Receive Eternal Life
To have a relationship with God and a home in Heaven, we must stop relying on ourselves, our good deeds, or religious traditions. Instead, we must place our complete trust in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of our sins and the gift of eternal life. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” This is God’s promise: if you come to Him in prayer, admit you are a sinner, ask for His forgiveness, and place your trust in Jesus as your Savior, He will save you and give you eternal life as a free gift.
You can make that choice right now by praying sincerely from your heart, something like this:
Dear God, I know that my sin has separated me from You. I admit that I cannot save myself. Right now, I turn to You alone to be my Savior. Please forgive my sins and give me the gift of eternal life. I trust You completely.—Amen
